DANCING LIKE NO ONE'S WATCHING

DANCING LIKE NO ONE'S WATCHING is a piece for solo piano, written for the Music and Parkinson's Research led by Dr Michelle Phillips (Royal Northern College of Music) and Dr Ellen Poliakoff (University of Manchester).

The piece, rather than having a fixed narrative, depicts the feeling of the freedom of being able to dance, with no judgement, in a huge, empty ballroom.

The piece was written with my People with Parkinson's Collaborator, Rosalia (Kikki) Sweetenham, without whom it would not have been possible.

Piano: Yuanfan Yang

Premiered and recorded on the 30th of January 2025 from the Carole Nash Recital Room at the Royal Northern College of Music as part of the Music for Parkinson’s (Relaxed Performance) concert.

"I can't help but being incredibly moved by Dancing Like No One's Watching, and yes, it makes me cry, but with tears of  joy, because it makes me feel special. It gently whispers: You can still."

- A People With Parkinson's Collaborator
